Food Safety Administration Internship

What does Star South do?

Based in Wellington, South Africa, Star South serves four key groups across the diverse sector of fresh produce: fruit producers and retailers, both within South Africa and abroad. Besides becoming South Africa’s largest importer of table grapes, stone fruit and kiwis, we’ve expanded our portfolio to include citrus, pomegranates, apples, pears, and figs – sourced and sold across the globe.

How does the Internship work?

  • The programme will run for 12-months
  • You will be based in our compliance division, executing daily tasks as detailed below

What are the candidate requirements?

  • Relevant NQF5 Qualification in Food Safety and/ or experience in food safety would be advantageous
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans
  • Reliable transport
  • Computer literate, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Strong administration skills with high attention to detail
  • Self-disciplined and able to work independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be service orientated
  • Work with extreme accuracy

Basic duties:

  • Data capturing
  • Assist with the preparation and onsite audits of producers
  • Maintain supplier and client data (contact information, certifications etc.)
  • Monitor audit dates of suppliers and ensure they are notified and provided with relevant documentation required in time
  • Maintain all producer certificates on file and send to clients upon request
  • Upload producer documentation on required platforms
  • Ensure MRL and Spray records are monitored and available
  • Capture MRL information received in database
  • Be informed and updated on market requirements, and ensure any changes are communicated to suppliers
  • Conduct research when necessary or requested
  • Monitor QC emails and send important information to marketers as required

He is fluent in French and also has basic Spanish language skills.
