The Star South Academy.

We are passionate about developing young people and opening doors to exciting career possibilities.
This is why the Star South Academy was launched.

Many young people have the potential to thrive in our industry, but not the opportunity – so we started the Star South Academy to offer ambitious and hardworking young people the chance to develop their skills, get valuable work experience and, in certain programmes, even gain qualifications. Below, you’ll find all the relevant details about the programmes and the requirements for prospective learners.

Available programmes

We offer three types of 12-month programmes, each with specific requirements outlined below.

  • Grade 12 matriculants between the ages of 18 and 21
  • Those wanting to pursue a career in supply chain, general management or finance
  • Learners attend class while also working at Star South, where they rotate through various business divisions to experience different job roles
  • Class assignments are completed after hours
  • A qualification: Star South sponsors the studies (provided they’re completed)
  • A monthly stipend
  • Valuable work experience with a reputable company
  • Consideration for permanent employment (for top achievers)
  • Undergraduates between the ages of 18 and 24
  • TVET college-enrolled learners pursuing a qualification relevant to Star South’s business activities (refer to the list under GENERAL REQUIREMENTS)
  • Valuable on-the-job experience needed to complete your qualification
  • A monthly stipend
  • Consideration for permanent employment (for top achievers)
  • Graduates between the ages of 18 and 24
  • Graduates with a degree relevant to Star South’s business activities (refer to the list under GENERAL REQUIREMENTS)
  • Valuable work experience with a reputable company to kickstart your career
  • A monthly stipend
  • Consideration for permanent employment (for top achievers)

In addition to all programme-specific requirements listed above, all applicants must also:

  • Hold a National Senior Certificate
  • Be fluent in English and Afrikaans
  • Have access to reliable transport
  • Be interested in – or currently pursuing – careers in one of the following:
  • Logistics
  • Finance
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Procurement
  • General Administration
  • Human Resources

Danél is passionate about figs and has been dedicated to the export of almost 70% of the South African fig offering for the past seven years.

Jaco is a born entrepreneur and has been trading fruit since the age of 12 when he started his first business. He has experience in all major business areas, including farming, handling, transport, logistics, IT, marketing operations, finance, management, international and domestic affairs. He is fluent in French and also has basic Spanish language skills.
